In the modern world of business, it is useless to be a creative original thinker unless you can also sell what you create. Management cannot be expected to recognize a good idea unless it is presented to them by a good salesman. — David M. Ogilvy

Happy New Year from Chicago

Fireworks photography was plagued with problems so I decided from henceforth that fireworks are best enjoyed without any video/photography :)

I was standing near the edge of the pier, facing the closest fireworks show in my entire life. My battery went flat on me due to the cold – it went from full charge to nil in 15 minutes! This is probably coldest weather I’ve experienced in my life. However, my Sony Ericsson K750 was very resilient. It captured almost the entire fireworks show while the battery indicator was showing red. It was so cold even Lake Michigan froze. Having a weather resistant Camera (and battery) is something to think about if one wants to shoot in extreme weather.

Here’s some of my better shots taken during the night and the next day on 01.01.2010.

This Buckingham Fountain is closed during winter. It would be interesting to see frozen water spurting out of the fountain though :P

It was packed inside. The DJ was spinin some cool tunes and people are ready to party. I’m amazed how some girls are able to wear mini skirts in this weather!

The next morning, we walked from Travelodge Hotel to Union Station. It was so cold, you can see steam coming out from man holes. Here’s some random shots taken on the way to Union Station

These are smart birds. They’re so smart they even know where to shit…unlike birds in Penang that always like to shit on people’s clothes! (Or maybe not…they’re just there for the heat of the sewer …lol)

This is probably my first time going on a shopping spree on a new year’s day. Did not buy much though. I will never understand the logic of sales and discount. People are buying stuff worth hundreds after discount without realizing that it’s still expensive…so my conclusion is, price was never the issue. The “discount”, no matter how many percent, is the perfect excuse for people to buy the stuff they like. People will find a way to justify a purchase, no matter how expensive it is.
