My first impression of China town in Chicago was that it’s not a good neighborhood to be in…presumably due to crime as I was told. I kind of sensed that when I was there but I felt safer here than being in Petaling Street in KL. There’s not much to see here although you can get some cheap/ fake/ 3rd rate souvenirs here.
I guess there’s a lot of Hong Kong immigrants here as most of them speak Cantonese. Also people of northen China. Mostly restaurants, Chinese herbs shops and banks along this road.
This some what related article was slashdoted recently and got me thinking…what makes people want to go back to their own country after many years in the US…the land of promises? Perhaps Dr. Shi was right, that the US is losing its edge? But US is still a pretty cool place to live in. People here built planes, rockets, cars in their garage! China still has a long way to go in terms of having a conducive living/ working environment. Like…there’s no way I’m going to live in Shen Zhen with all that pollution. Malaysia? People wouldn’t think twice to leave
The only thing people will probably miss is the food.

There’s a few Malaysian restaurants around Chicago called “Penang”. One of them is in China town. I’ve been to the one abit out of town. Food was decent but nothing compared to the real deal in Malaysia.

We were so busy walking that we didn’t notice this museum right in front of us! I only realize it when I looked at the photos.

I was surprised to see Fa Lun Gong supporters promoting their cult out in the cold. Most people ignore them.

Here’s one of my favorite MV from Ayumi…

chinese herbs are very helpful on my allergic rhinits*,;
